Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio
What steps can out-of-state (Florida) relatives take in order to get custody of a child headed to foster care in Ohio?
The hearing is on September 15th. Currently my sister has full custody and the child's father has partial (they never married). Unfortunately, due to their history of domestic violence with each other and her mental issues (she has been voluntarily treated and now on medication and therapy), the state is petitioning to remove parental rights from the both of them.
Your advice is greatly appreciated. Our mother (who lives with me, my husband, and our daughter) and our family is very worried about losing my niece to the foster care system.

Have you been contacted by Summit County Children Services? They are supposed to consider relative placement in these situations. I do a lot of work in Summit County Juvenile Court and If you wish I could represent you and attend the hearing on your behalf. I could probably file a motion with the Court for transfer of Custody to you. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions by e-mail or phone.
