Legal Question in Family Law in Ohio

Temporay custody of my neice

My sister isn't in a position to keep her 8 year old daughter. She brought her to me yesterday and asked me to care for her until she is able to do so herself. I am more than happy to do this, except I feel like I should get temporary custody of her inorder to take care of her the way that I should. I as well want to add her to my insurance coverage because she is uninsured currently. My sister said she would right a note and have it certified, but I can't help but feel that isn't enough. What do you suggest we do if anything?

Re: Temporay custody of my neice

You can either do it the cheap way or the right way. The cheap way is to have a consent by the custodian for you to have the child treated as well as notice that you will be the "custodian" as far as the school is concerned. The right way is to go to Juvenile Court and have the Temporary custody shifted to you. The problem is that it will be more difficult for her to get the children back as the Court will want to make sure that the condition that existed before is still not there.

Unless the school or the insurance company objects, the cheap way is acceptable.
