Legal Question in Medical Leave in Ohio
F.M.L.A.
I have a chemistry imbalance in my brain that causes depression and now panic attacks. I turned in a FMLA packet to my employer (a sheriffs office). they in turn put me off work without pay pending a doctor they chose to evaluate me. Their doc.says I do need councilling and I am going but their doctor told me all of this was unnessary and now my stress is tremendous because there is NO income for my home and two children. Was all this handled properly? I am on this medication for life...am I considered disabled? Is there another approach to losing everything we have worked so hard for here???Pleae help.Sincerely Gin

Re: F.M.L.A.
The police department will (well, ought to anyway) have policies about ADA accommodation. They are first responders and government employees, so it depends upon the job function as to how far they must comply. There are several issues, 1) work without pay and 2) how far they MUST go for accommodation.
Consult a local attorney with *experience* suing the city over ADA matters. You can find one by either asking around or going to the court records to find out who has represented plaintiffs in the past on ADA claims against the city.
