Civil Subpoenas

I have been subpoenaed by the state of Ohio to testify in a civil lawsuit regarding a rape that was committed 6 1/2 years ago. The rapist was convicted, served 5 years of an 8 year sentence, and had his conviction overturned. He is now suing the state for wrongful inprisonment. I was the one who was raped, and have been subpoenaed to testify at the civil trial. I live in Missouri- do I have to go?

Generally your travel costs must be advanced along with the subpoena. I would suggest that you contact the Attorney General's Office, as they represent the State in the case. They can advise you on the specifics of your case, and perhaps they can arrange for a deposition (a sworn statement in response to questions from both sides), rather than a trip to Ohio.
