Is a contract enough to keep someone from suing me
is it enough to have a contract between me, the childcare provider and the parents of the children I watch in court if one of them should get hurt and my homeowners insurance doesn't cover them?

The contract you have may offer you some protection from a lawsuit if there is a clause absolving you from liability for your negligence. However, even if there is such a clause, it is probably not a good idea to rely on it for protection. Also, your homeowner's insurance may not provide you protection either, depending on whether it offers coverage for in-home businesses (which I assume you have.) You would be wise to discuss your insurance needs with your insurance agent and your business organization with your attorney and accountant.
