Neighbor wrongly cut down tree

The landlord of the property next to our house has hired an handy type men to down a tree on his property.

Thehandy man proceeded to cut the tree down on our lot. Estimates that we have gotten for the tree range in the 15,000 to 20,000 dollar area.There was a police report taken and the landlord admidted the wrong doing by his uninsured and unlicened handy man

I assume you are wanting to know what can be done?

Based on the facts you stated here, you probably have a good claim against the landlord. The handyman was the agent of the landlord, so any damage caused by the handyman in his work for the landlord can be held against the landlord as well. Additionally, by hiring an uninsured and unlicensed handyman, the landlord could be liable for negligent hiring.

Due to the costs involved ($15-20k) I would strongly suggest speaking with an attorney about your situation. He or she can talk with the landlord about compensating you, or if that fails, the attorney can file a claim on your behalf against the landlord for the damage.
