Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Ohio

Small Claims jurisdiction involving corporations

I have a question concerning jurisdiction in Small Claims Court involving a corporation. I purchased a car in Greene County, OH from a Chrysler Dealer. Many problems arose during the warranty period that persisted for several years after we moved away. I complained to Chrysler Motors Customer Relations where they verbally promised to provide me compensation once the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, after 11 additional visits and costs exceeding $2000 more, they declared they wouldnt honor that commitment. I attempted to resolved the matter though the Ohio Attorney Generals arbitration program, but the Chrysler Corporation Regional Office in Cincinnati declined any further involvement.

My situation: Ive moved back to where I purchased the car. The dealership that sold me the car here has changed ownership, but wasnt involved in the arrangement for compensation that I had reached with Chrysler Corporation. When I contacted the State on the appropriate corporation address to use in a small claims action, they gave me the Cincinnati address cited above. So where do I file? In Greene County where I purchased the car and where I reside? In Hamilton County where the registered Chrysler representative/regional office is located?

Re: Small Claims jurisdiction involving corporations

You would file in Greene County where you purchased the car. This is where you made the contract, this is where the witnesses would be located, and this would be the correct location for a lawsuit. Good luck!
