Small Claims Question

I purchased furniture using my student loan money and cannot retreve it out of my ex boyfriends house. He put the reciept in his name but I have the check stub from my loan money and also have email from his neice in which she states that I purchased the furniture. He is saying it is a gift, but when paying I waited in the car and he put the reciept in his name, that should dismiss the reciept proving I purchased it...Correct? I did not purchase this as a gift for him! Am I wasting my time in small claims court or do I have a chance to get my stuff back?
