Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Ohio

Sued in Akron, but never lived, worked or done business there

I have a civil suite filed against me in Akron, Ohio from Citi Bank over disputed charges. They are in South Dakota and I live in Texas. Judgement was defaulted to the plantiff. I don't know why or even how Akron courts can give judgement in this matter. I need to know how to straighten this out. Does this mean that someone can suee me anywhere in the US and if I do not show up then they win? The only thing close to Akron for me is my husbands father lives there. But on the complaint I see my address as Texas and the plantiff as SD. If I appeal does this mean I have to travel to Ohio for this?

Sounds to me that you could easily have this judgment removed. You need to file a Motion for Relief From Judgment.

Unless one of you cosigned for the father in law, it sounds as if Akron does not have jurisdiction. You would need to retain counsel in Akron to seek the revoval of the judgment and dismissal of the action. With a motion practice, you would not need to come to Ohio.
