When i give immigration my divorce papers do they look into the case number or what do they do with them

It depends on why you are giving the divorce papers to your lawyer. Why not ask you lawyer? If you and your current spouse are filing for an adjustment of status, prior divorces need to be proven to CIS so that you are free and legally eligible to marry your current spouse. If you are filing for naturalization, CIS requires them for background checks for sham divorces. If you are filing to remove conditions then your lawyer may be using them to prove the matter was lawfully terminated and that you are eligible for a good faith waiver of the joint filing requirement. Best to ask your lawyer.
