Stage performance rights

We obtained a license to perform a play, however the company that sold us this license does not have authority over video rights. If we want to make short videos of segments of the play to promote the upcoming production would we violate copyright?

You can only obtain the rights that the company has. So if the company only had rights to license a play (and not a movie) then you would be outside of the scope of your rights by filming a movie. Essentially, you can only step into the shoes of the company. I caution you in that this is a general answer and not intended to be specific to your case...I would need to see contracts to answer specifically what your rights include.
