Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Ohio

child who committed arson at age 12

Hello, I have a nephew who committed arson at 12. He served two years in a kids home. His grandmother took custody of him once he was left at 14 years old. At age 16, his grandmother died. Is he old enough to live on his own, or will he have to live with his mother and step-father, or can someone else who's a non-family member (18 and over) become his guardian? My nephew committed arson in retaliation to the physical abuse of his step-father.

Also, my nephew was attacked by 12 boys and 1 girl three months ago. He was able to identify two boys. A few weeks later the two boys were found murdered. Since my nephew is 16, the police took him down for questioning. Is that correct procedure? Is he a suspect?

Re: child who committed arson at age 12

In oHio that child needs a guardian, and if he is suspected of this crime, he may be tried as an adult... double-edged sword.
