Legal Question in Juvenile Dependency in Ohio

Juvenile Records

If one has a felony as a juvenile, and the juvenile's lawyer filed the paper work to have the case closed and expunged. Is this actually closed and can police doing a background chcek see this. I want to be a police officer and I'm afraid my stupid mistake I made when I was 17 has spoiled any chances for me. Can I check no when filling out any applications when asked about a felony record?

Re: Juvenile Records

The law on expungement specifically allows a person the privilege of not being forced to report an expunged crime on any job application. If a records check is done, I believe there is only a reference to a sealed record with no specifics. It is my understanding that only a Court Order can allow inspection of a sealed record. That being said, I have never dealt with the specific case of a person applying for a law enforcement position. Feel free to contact me if you have further questions. Best regards, Edward DiCato
