Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio
my boss is trying to get me in trouble because of a facebook status what can i do
1 Answer from Attorneys
That depends on what your facebook message said, what sort of position you hold with your company, where you were when you posted it, and whether you are a separate contract/union CBA with your employer as opposed to a regular "at will" employment relationship.
Some facebook statuses can be considered "concerted, protected activity" under the National Labor Relations Act. If you are fired because you posted a status that was a "concerted, protected activity" under the Act, you might have some protections. However, if your status is not considered legally "protected," you are not protected, and your employer can fire you for any reason or no reason at all, including that status, unless you have an employment contract or agreement that states differently. You should contact an attorney in your areas as soon as possible to see what your options are at this point. You should keep a copy of your status somewhere so that you can show it to your lawyer, as well.
