Re: company meetings
In Ohio an employer can make personal behavior outside of your work hours a condition of your employment. The issue comes up for smokers. It is lawful for an employer to terminate an employee who smokes in violation of a no smoking rule that prohibits smoking outside of work.
Your situation is more connected to work than that of a smoker who lights up on her personal time. Therefore, I would expect that an Ohio employer can require no drinking after a company meeting in a hotel room that it paid for.
