Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio
I got a job offer in Denver, so I quit my job in MIami, did 7 weeks of training at the comapny hq, then started driving to Denver, and on my way there, the company let me go with no good reason. I had all my stuff packed up- and was in the middle of Oklahoma, everything I owned in my car-when they told me. Since they made me sign something that said it was "at will", I thought there was nothing I could do, but then I started researching online. and found the below. This is a $900 million dollar company that hired me. They basically screwed me over. Is there anything I can do? I looked online and found the below:
Does my employer need a good reason to discipline or fire me?
Normally, no.
An exception to the at will rule might apply if you are fired from a job shortly after quitting another job or relocating based on the new employer's job offer. Such an exception could apply if the new employer knew or should have known that the job offer wasn't serious-or "real"-at the time it was made.

You may have a civil cause-of-action called promissory estoppel. Essentially, this is when a promise was made, you relied reasonably on that promise, and such reliance resulted in damages.
Talk to an employment attorney about this one. You can find such an attorney throughout the country by going to www.Nela.org (The National Employment Lawyers Assn.)
