Let go for being married...

I was hired last month at a small company where I had worked in the past, and where my husband has been employed all of his adult life. After working for a month, they today told me that they would have to let me go because I was married, and in the handbook it states that married couples may not work in the same department. Technically we are not in the same department, and they all knew I was married to a worker long before I was hired-some of the employees were at and/or in our wedding !!! They are all raving about my work and are willing to give me the same job in a different building. Is it legit to dismiss me for something they knew long before they hired me?

No, there is a concept known as estoppel which precludes such acts.
