How can i start my own business if non-solicitaion agreement sighned

I used to work for document imaging company in ohio and company has terminated my services in october 2002. At the time i got terminated I have signed release agreement and there was the clause which is stated as below:

NO-SOICITAION : ''Employee agrees that he will not, directly or indirectly, contact or solicit business from any customer of the company, or from any person responsible for referring business to the company, for any competitor of the company or for Employees own interests if he should become a competitor of the company.''

since then till date I am unemployed.

Can I open my own document imaging compay in Ohio?

What should i do to avoid the problems that might occur in future, if I want open my document imaging company?

Your question involves some very complicated and subtle legal issues. Ordinarily, a non-solicitation agreement is enforceable to the extent that its territorial and time restrictions are reasonable. I'm not sure that there are ANY restrictions in the one that you signed, let alone reasonable ones. Also, an employee must receive some consideration in exchange for his agreement not to compete.
