Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio
wrongfuldischarge
I was recently terminated from my place of employement after being with them almost a year. I have missed two days of work in a year, i always stay beyond my quiting time, i produced over $845,000.00 in gross sales 10 months into the year. I have no written or verbal warnings, no red marks on my file of any kind.
I was recently terminated because the company now says that my husband and i can not work together because we are married. When i applied for employement they knew we were married and offered me a better position and better pay than what i was applying for.
Can someone please tell me how a company can fire a person for this? I see that the law clearly is protecting them because ohio is an at-will employer and they can terminated at any time for any reason.
Who is protecting my rights as a person? I have lost my entire income because they want to play corproate games...not because i have done anything wrong.
can anything be done here?

Re: wrongfuldischarge
You may have some federal and/or state protection. In at will state, you can fire for any reason, or no reason, just not the wrong reason (ie: protected status such as pregnant, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, etc..) call the Ohio Bar Association in Columbus and get a referral to a top notch employment law attorney. They'll be able to steer you in the right direction. Good luck!
