Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio
We had a fire in our apartment over a month ago and have not lived there since. The apartment management company said they would take care of it the week of the fire and now are saying they expect me to pay for repairs to the structure of the building. The cause was a water heater which did not have a plate covering the pilot light. Who is responsable for the repairs and the cost?

In Ohio, if a fire was caused by a hot water heater that was supplied by the landlord and the tenant did nothing to change the nature of the hot water heater or otherwise negligently damage it, then the damage caused by the fire would be the responsibility of the landlord.
