Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

My friend currently rents a house. There was an accidental fire in the kitchen while she was cooking. The kitchen and much of its contents have been destroyed. The insurance company rep came to the house and told her that the insureance co would most likely replace drywall but would sue the renter for negligence to cover the cost of expenses in the amount of $15K+? Can the insurance company really sue my friend for this accident? Under what statute? They also claim that contents within the home are not covered by the ins policy.

The insurance company can sue if they believe your friend was at fault for the fire. However, your friend needs to get an attorney to represent her so that the insurance company does not take advantage of her, which it sounds like that is happening.

I would love to represent your friend in this matter. Please contact me at either [email protected] or [email protected] for a free consultation.

Thanks and have a great day.
