Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

OK, My girlfriend and I are currently living in a apartment together our first apartment and it is very nerve racking. We are on our 7 month of our 12 month lease, Today a man was shot 6 times in our apartment no more than 12 feet away, we need to know if we could break our lease and still get the deposit back. my girlfriend is terrified and has been crying.
