Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

I am currently in a lease on a house and my landlord is offering another year lease, however our current lease runs to 10/1/12 and the new lease she wants us to sign begins 9/1/12. Can I have two leases over lapping eachother or if I sign the new lease, does my current lease become null and void? Any info would be great. Thank you!

In Ohio, if you sign a new lease with the landlord which is set to take effect before the old one ends, then most courts would see that as a new lease agreement superceding the old one, but only for that period of time in which the new lease takes over for the old one. It would not make the old lease void until the new one took over for it.
