Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio
I'm getting ready to lease an apartment where the owner is currently out of state. She is having a caretaker take care of the property here in town. My question is, how do I make sure this is legit? She wants a $900 deposit, which I'm willing to do. What sort of payment should I use to guarantee the money in the event she's a scammer? I've always rented from apartment companies and not from private property owners.

There is not a lot you can do. Are you able to meet with the caretaker? You could give her the money once you get the key to the place.
