Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Ohio

I signed an 18 month lease contract when I renewed my lease the last time. At that time-(august '08) i had no plans of buying a house in the near future. well, since then the market has turned favorable for me to buy a house. I have found a house and now the leasing company where i live, wont let me break the contract in order to put an offer on the house. and making a mortgage payment and a rent payment at the same time is just out of the question for me. what is the most they can legally do to me for walking away from my lease with only 3 or 4 months left on it.? thanks.

They could attempt to sue you for the past due amount of rent. However, they have to attempt to rent it if you break your lease. I would break the lease and see what they do.

Feel free to contact me, free of charge, at [email protected] or 330-447-7634. I am happy to help in any way that I can. Sometimes a letter from an attorney is all that is needed.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a great day.
