Legal Question in Personal Injury in Ohio
I have to give a deposition? What is this?
In two weeks I have to give a deposition with my attorney and the attorney for the company where I was permanately injured with severe head trauma resulting in lesions, scar tissue on my brain. The damage is permanent and stated on my nurologists records. The company is accepting full responsibility for what happened and they admitted neglience on their part. My question is what is a deposition? My attorney said this case could get into the millions and we needed to give a deposition to their attorney. Just looking for some advice to calm my nerves for the weekend.

A DEPOSITION IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE OTHER SIDE TO INTERVIEW YOU AS IF YOU WERE ON THE STAND. YOU ARE UNDER THE PENALTIES OF PERJURY. PRACTICALLY THIS IS A CHANCE FOR THE OTHER SIDE TO ASK EVERY QUESTION EVEN REMOTELY CLOSELY RELATED TO THE CASE AND YOU HAVE TO ANSWER EVERY SINGLE QUESTION. THE QUESTIONS USUALLY LAST AT LEAST 2-3 HOURS, AND SOMETIMES ALL DAY...THE OTHER SIDE WILL BE LOOKING TO MAKE LIFE VERY MISERABLE FOR YOU HOPING THAT YOU WILL WALK OUT AFTERWARDS AND SEEK TO SETTLE - NOT WANTING TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE SAME QUESTIONING - BUT IF YOU DO WELL AND SHOW YOU CANNOT BE RATTLED THEY MAY WANT TO SETTLE EARLIER....
YOU SHOULD SPEND A GOOD AMOUNT OF TIME TALKING TO YOUR ATTORNEY ABOUT EVERY QUESTION THAT HE THINKS COULD COME UP....YOUR GOING TO BE ASKED THE SAME QUESTION IN MANY DIFFERENT FORMS AND THE OTHER SIDE WILL BE TRYING TO GET YOU TO SAY SOMETHING....
YOU WILL NEED TO PRACTICE WITH YOUR ATTORNEY !!
