Legal Question in Personal Injury in Ohio
Slander
i was a general manager for a major pizza corporation for 12 years. because of physical reason i couldnt do my job anymore so i thought it time to leave. i gave my notice and ended my employement with this company. i live in the city that this restaurant was and through friends, past customers and past employee's i have found out that the new employee's, management or even upper management have been telling customers and other restaurant employee's from different pizza places that i was fired for theft. they've been telling people that i was fired for stealing money. i have heard this from 5 different people, and i was wandering if there is anything i can do about this. I haven't seeked other employement yet but i feel that this might be a burden in getting another job and if not, just the humiliation having to hear this and explain myself to others has caused me great anxioity and unhappiness. so i would appreciate any advice i can get on this subject matter. thank you.

Re: Slander
If you can prove that your employer stated to others that you were fired for theft, you can sue for defamation of character. If you can prove actual damages that would be helpful (i.e. turned down for a job etc.) but it is not necessary.
