Do you have home owners insurance? If so, you'll need to notify your insurance company of the claim. Most policies provide representation in the case you are sued. Should you not have home owners insurance, it is highly advisable for you to consult with an attorney in your area who practices general civil litigation. If the attack was really three years ago, it is likely that the statute of limitations has run on the injured person's claim (unless they were a minor at the time of the attack) and you can get the case dismissed with the help of an attorney.
