Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio
Breaking Joint Lease
I previously leased an apartment with another individual and after only 3 weeks he moved out without any regards to the lease we had signed, it was very expensive place and i was not able to afford it on my own, so I therefore had to move also, my wages are now being garnished due to breaking the lease and i want to know if he can also be held responsible, he has paid nothing on this and i am being taken for way more than i can afford, can he be held responsible for breech of contract for leaving me with the apartment? And is there anything that can be done to where part of the garnishment can come from his wages, i have children and other bills that i am responsible for and he has none.

Re: Breaking Joint Lease
Typically for most leases, both parties signing would have joint and several liability which means the landlord could pursue both of you or just one of you. You could try to get the landlord to also go after the other lessee. You also could file suit against the co-lessee.
