Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

We contracted with a agent to buy a house. As it turns out, we bought a lot and are building a house. The agent did provide a list of custom builders, which i did cross reference with my research. We have interviewed 3 builders without her input, help or involvement. Give the market, it is clear that the house will be built on a cost + basis. The house will be over 1M, and i don't want to pay 6% out of my pocket, since she has not been involved.

Ethically, should the Realtor receive a commission?

What is your agreement with the agent? Go back to the contract to see what it says.

In my opinion, based upon your contract terms, and the law of Ohio, if you only contracted with the realtor for the purchase of the lot, you owe him/her/it/them nothing more than a commission on the purchase price of the lot. Don't offer or pay one cent more!

Good luck!

Sincerely, J. Norman Stark
