Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Days notice on 1 year lease

I signed a one year lease that is ending on 8/1/01. I've read in the landlord tenant laws that 30 days notice of not renewing is required on month-to-month leases. I notified my landlord over the telephone on 7/20/01 that I would not be renewing my lease. I hadn't heard from him and nowhere in the lease does it state that I had to give him 30 days notice. He is charging me for next month's rent since I didn't notify him 30 days prior to moving out. I'm fine with doing that, but I wasn't able to find that in the law. Am I required to do that on a year-to-year lease also?

Re: Days notice on 1 year lease

Under the law, your landlord is giving you a break. A year to year lease requires six months notice under ORC Title 53.
