Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio
lease termination
i have live with my two roommates for a year and two month in the same rental property. we have just recently found out that the house is not wired to code. All of the electrical outlets are twenty years old or older. In addition to this each bedroom has only one electrical outlet. there are no outlets that are grounded. we were wondering if there is any way we would be able to terminate our lease as well as get our security deposit back.

Re: lease termination
While the unit may not be up to current codes, one must look to the code when the structure was built. As long as the building was current at the time it was built and no additions or refurbishments have been made that would affect the wiring, then the unit is acceptable and you can not break your lease.
