Is there a legal issue doing business on apartment property without the consent of the apartment company?

Technically, you shouldn't do it. However, the answer you're looking for probably depends on what you are doing on the property. Internet business probably no problem; retail sales with 50 people a day coming and going - a problem; hair cutting with 5 people a day, probably no problem; hair cutting 25 people a day, probably a problem.

You should (1) read your lease to see what is or is not allowed by the lease terms, and (2) check your local zoning code as some business activities might violate local zoning laws.
