Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio
After moving out of a landcontract that was mutually terminated. The owners have contacted me with a list that totals over $9K in "missing, damaged and not maintained to there liking" items. We lived in the house for 4 years and during that time replaced the whole roof 15K, The kitchen appliances 2.5K, laundry room floor, new light fixtures, repaired deck etc. We maintained the house as it was ours because it was going to be. What is the best way to dispute unfounded claims?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Dear Former Land Contractees: Please immediately prepare detailed chronology and recapitulation of all of your improvements, gather all bills, receipts, etc. andthe names of witnesses who saw the nice condition inwhich you left the premises. Next, retain experienced legal counsel to assist you in asserting your rights to be compensated and to defend against the unwarranted, outrageous claims of your former landlord.
Good luck! Sincerely, J. Norman Starkm Cleveland, OH.:
