Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

neighbors

I live in the country in a home down a very long gravel lane with one other family.

Their house is located further down the lane requiring them to drive past my house to reach theirs. My challenge.

My neighbor drives past our home at a wrecklous speed.

My estimate, 30 to 40 miles an hour. We have children and animals. We have ask them to drive slower and more cautiously. It has not worked. They just started driving faster. Well, last night my dog was struck.

What, if any are my options?

Is there a way I can get a legal order to slow vehicles to a safe speed?

Or restrict use all together?

And what about our dog? We have vet expenses and a very distresses daughter.

Re: neighbors

Is the long road a privae or a public roadway. If it is a private roadway, you can place a reasonable speed bump near your house to slow down traffic. If it is a public roadway, then you will have to contact the municipilaty in order to see if they can put a speed bump in and/or have a police officer nearby in order to curb the speeding.

As to your dog, if you have proof which can be an ID of some sort as to who hit your dog, then you can sue them civilly. Dogs are treated like personal property and not like people. Your daughters pain and suffering is not recoverable unless you can show that this action was done purposfully to harm your family. The vet bills are recoverable.
