Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Property Rights of Unmarried Couples

My boyfriend and I have been together for 11 years and we own a home together (3 years). My name is on the deed and titlte but is not on the loan. We split all the bills 50/50. We are breaking up and he wants me to sign over the house. Does he have to buy me out? Do we sell and split it?

You have no obligation to give up title without some compensation. Have you paid for improvements, paid on the mortgage? Has the property increased in value?

These things should be considered when determining your "buyout".
