Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

rights to property

I own a house that my father has been living in (for 12 years. He pays me no rent, he does pay for all the upkeeping done to the house. My father has a live in girl friend who has been with him in the house for all 12 years. My question is..... if something were to happy to my father do I need to worry about the girl friend having some type of legal right to the house?

Re: rights to property

Hi,

You didn't indicate if your father has a legal interest in the property but implied he did not. Assuming he has no legal interest, at his death, the girl friend would simply be a tenant - with all of the rights of a tenant. She wouldn't gain any interest in the home, unless your father has an interest, other than being a tenant, that he would leave to his friend.
