Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ohio

Many years ago, when our church was first established, they were sponsored and monies loaned by a larger church in the area. Evidently, something was signed called a "reverter contract" which states that if our church ever ceased to be, although, the loan was paid off many years ago, the sponsoring church would own all the land and property that our church presently owns. What exactly is a "reverter contract" and can it be terminated. The people who signed this contract over 30 years ago are not longer involved with our church. Please provide whatever info you can regarding the legality of this type of contract.

Thanx and be blessed

Good afternoon, A reverter means like it sounds--to go back to, as in "he reverted to his old ways when he got out of jail". Without more details, I might suggest (1) negotiate an agreed cancellation of the old contract, based on the loan being paid off, or (2) if negotiations fail, get a local attorney to file a declaratory judgement action to have a court declare the contract and any associated lien canceled.
