Legal Question in Social Security Law in Ohio

Misdemeanor Warrants

My friend is terribly ill and is

considering moving to Ohio, so that

I may care for him. He was

convicted in another state (Aside

from where he is currently

residing.) of numerous

misdemeanors that originated from

one single incident, and placed on 2

years of probation. (No drug or

violence charges.) His SSI benefits

were terminated, due to the

probation violation of leaving the

state, regardless that it was for

better medical care. The state of

conviction refuses to extradite him,

and would not be able to financially

give adequate medical treatment if

he returned and was incarcerated.

Is there a way have his benefits

reinstated? Any/all

assistance/advice and/or guidance

is appreciated.

The general rule is probation violations are disqualifing, regardless of motive. There are lawsuits challening this so it may eventaully change, and the change may be retroactive. So in 6 months or so,the person may be eligible to have all their lost benefits restored-IF the lawsuits are successful.
