Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio
Fleeing the Scene?
I damaged my vehicle in a parking lot last night. There was poor visability due to heavy fog and I struck a light pillar. It caused extensive damage to my car but no damage to the concrete pillar. Since my property was the only thing damaged, I left the scene. Does this consitute as fleeing the scene? I'm being charged for it but I don't really feel it applies seeing as I am the only affected party. If it does what is the typical sentence for such an offence?

Re: Fleeing the Scene?
You definitely should contest this and probably best to have a lawyer do it for you. If your impression was that there was nothing to report then you cannot be guilty. There must have been some damage, so the issue will become your knowledge of it. I dont know exactly what citation you actually received, but your argument should at least compel the prosecutor to plea bargain. This charge may very well constitute a criminal conviction, so you probably need help.
