Traffic stop
Do the police have the right to run your plate number and pull you over if you've committed no traffic infraction?

Yes, if after running the plate number, which is autmatically linked to the registered owner's driver license record and there is a basis for the stop resulting from such information. The officer need only have a reasonable articuable suspicion that criminal activity is afoot in order to proceed with a stop. Thus, if the registered vehicle owner has an outstanding warrant, or suspended license, the officer has a lawful basis to initiate the stop.
