Legal Question in Traffic Law in Ohio
unpaid back fines
in 1989 I had a traffic violation (leaving the scene of an accident, I ran over a street sign.) Went to court, got a 500.00 fine which I never paid. Today I went to court with my wife and when we were leaving one of the court officers came out in front of the court house and said the judge now wanted to see me. The judge informed me of my past sentence and determend that I was to pay 50.00 per month untill this 15 yr. old fine was paid. My questions are first, did they have the right to pull me in from the street like that and second am I still liable for these old fines. I would appreciate any help you can give me in this matter. Thank you

Re: unpaid back fines
Yes you are still liable for the fines. They were a court order. Yes, they can pull you in on them. In fact, I'm surprised you didn't have a warrant on you. Please be aware that you are risking incarceration if you do not pay the fines.
