Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio
Trying to close a checking account($33.31) in my late mother's name. I only have signing priveleges. Thebank wants a letter from probate, but her estate did not require it. What can I do to close the account?

If the account was in your mother's name alone then you will need probate court permission to transfer the account. Given the size of the account the probate court filing fees will probably be more than the size of the account. Unless your mother had other assets in just her name it will probably not be worth pursing.

I agree with the previous attorney's answer. The filing fees to pursue a Application for Release from Administration start at $25 for the short form up to $190.
