Re: someone decesed

In Ohio creditors have six months after someone dies to make a claim. If they do not present the executor or administrator with a claim within the six month period then they are barred from collecting. A claim may be presented by simply mailing a copy of a statement to the executor or administrator.

Generally since it is the creditors duty to present the claims executors or administrators do not go out of their way to find debts. However, a good place to start would be the deceased mail, credit report and if he or she owned property you can check the county recorders office for mortgages or other liens.

This is general information. It is not intended as legal advise nor does it create an attorney client relationship. You should consult an attorney for advise particular to your situation.
