Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

durable power of attorney usage

My father appointed me durable power of attorney before his recent death. Is the document still good after his death to receive any kind of monies including some unclaimed funds we were just notified of. Does the document mean that i have all control over his estate since there was no will?? Thank you

Re: durable power of attorney usage

No, all powers of attorney end at death, whether durable or not. To handle the estate, you should apply to your probate court to become Executor.
