Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

My father recently passed away, and was married to his third wife at the time. She did not attempt to contact my fathers three living children, nor even her own daughter, and none of us were mentioned on the obituary.

Is there a way to assure or check that the public records in his home state and county in Ohio contain the names and addresses of his living children?

I have seen this scenario play out probably dozens of times. I would first suggest that you contact the probate court in the county where your father was residing when he passed. Tell the clerk your father's name and ask for a copy of the form listing surviving spouse and next of kin (Standard Probate Form 1.0). This form should list all of his natural children. In addition, you MAY be able to view this information on-line if the county probate court has their documents scanned for review by the public. If not, you can ask the clerk to mail you copies of the forms that have been filed. Of course, this assumes that the 3rd wife will even be opening an estate. It may be that your father has already transferred to 3rd wife all assets, thus making the usual opening of the estate and filing of some forms unnecessary.
