how soon after my father's death will I know if I am in the will?

There is a possibility that you may never receive notice of your father's will unless it is entered into the county probate court. If the will is filed with the court, the executor must serve all next of kin and those named in the will. This may only happen if there are probate assets or titled only in our dad's name alone. Assets that pass by joint and survivor, designated beneficiary or are transfer or payable on death (TOD or POD) are transferred outside of probate and directly to the person named.
