Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio
My fiance listed me and his minor daughter(living with her Mother) beneficiaries of his retirement. 2 days later he committed suicide. His employment policy covered suicidal deaths and his employer called me in for a meeting. My fiance was employed by the Govt. with a large retirement. The employer stated that the benefit would go toward the minor child's education after high school(child was 14 yrs. old )and pay for College until child became 21yrs.of age. At that time, the remaining monies would go to me.( My name was listed first as beneficiary @100 percent.) Should the child not go to College, the full beneficiary would be me. The minor child was a slow learner and I feel certain that there was no education beyond high school. How can I find out about status of my inheritance. The death was in 1990 so I also would like to know if there is a statute of limitations on beneficiaries. I do have the beneficiary document. Thank you in advance for your advisement. I was also told by employer that I would be contacted after minor child reaching 21 yrss. of age. I was never contacted but my last name has changed twice since then.

The fact pattern you present is very unusual and I think to answer your question an attorney would need to know more information. Generally if you were the 100% beneficiary then it should have been paid to you directly. I am not sure how they could have held it for his daughter unless there was a trust involved.
I would suggest that you make some inquiries immediately particularly since so much time has passed.
