Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Ohio

Can I file myself to administer my mother's estate or do I need an attorney? She died 23 years ago and 4 or 5 years ago was awarded money from the Hilton pension plan that she was cheated out of. i am having problems with receiving the money, they keep telling me they are searching for beneficiaries. I am her only living child.

You can represent yourself and open up a probate estate for your mother but often it is difficult for a non-legal person to handle alone. It can be complicated and confusing for you and is much easier to have an attorney do it for you. Many of my clients wish to handle some of the work themselves to save money so I guide them on what they need to do and they handle much of it themselves. You should ask a probate attorney if they can also do this for you if the legal costs are a concern. I would be happy to assist you further if you would like. www.socrateslegal.com
