How do you find out if a deceased parent left a will? Is this information public ? If so where do you go to find out?

Re: Finding a will

You can find out if someone has filed the will for probate by contacting the county clerk of the county where the decedent resided. But if there was a will, but no probate, then you just have to ask around: other relatives, attorneys, friends, pastors, etc. If after all that there is still no evidence of a will, then you could open an estate, assuming there is anything to transfer, for property to pass by intestate succession.
